Responsible Gambling
Casino gaming should be entertainment — not a source of stress, financial harm, or family conflict. This page outlines the responsible-gambling controls available on Maxim88, warning signs of problem gambling, and free support resources for Malaysian players and their families.
Strict 18+ Policy
You must be at least 18 years old to play at Maxim88. Accounts found to be held by minors are permanently closed and any winnings are forfeited. Parents or guardians can use free parental-control tools such as Internet Matters to restrict access to gambling sites on home networks.
Built-in Account Controls
Every Maxim88 player account includes free tools to help you stay in control. Access them under Account Settings → Responsible Gambling:
- Deposit limits. Set a daily, weekly, or monthly maximum deposit. Once the limit is reached, further deposits are blocked until the window resets. Increases take effect after a cooling-off period of 24 hours; decreases take effect immediately.
- Loss limits. Cap the maximum net loss over a chosen period. When the cap is reached, gameplay is paused until the window resets.
- Session time reminders. A pop-up appears at intervals you choose (every 30, 60, or 90 minutes) to let you decide whether to keep playing or take a break.
- Cool-off. Temporarily block your own access for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Your balance is preserved.
- Self-exclusion. Permanently close your account and prevent re-registration. Any remaining balance is returned to your verified payment method. Self-exclusion cannot be reversed for at least six months.
Warning Signs of Problem Gambling
If you recognise any of the following in yourself or someone close to you, consider reaching out for support:
- Spending more money or time on gambling than planned
- Chasing losses — betting more after a losing session to recover what you lost
- Borrowing money, missing bills, or using funds earmarked for essentials to gamble
- Lying to family or friends about how often or how much you gamble
- Feeling anxious, restless, or irritable when not gambling
- Gambling to escape stress, depression, or conflict
Free, Confidential Support
All of the organisations below offer free, confidential help. You do not need to be in crisis to contact them — many players reach out simply to talk through their relationship with gambling.
- BeGambleAware — free 24-hour helpline, live chat, and self-assessment tools
- GamCare — treatment, peer support forums, and self-help resources
- Gambling Therapy — multi-language online support, including Chinese and Malay
- ResponsibleGambling.org — global resource directory
- In Malaysia: the Life Line Association offers free counselling (03-4265 7995)
Self-Assessment
If you are unsure whether your gambling is causing harm, GamCare's self-assessment tool takes five minutes and is completely anonymous. The score can help you understand where you are on the spectrum from recreational play to problem gambling, and gives tailored next steps.
For Family and Friends
Problem gambling affects more than the player. If a family member is showing warning signs, you can:
- Contact BeGambleAware — they support affected others as well as players
- Avoid bailing out gambling debts, which can enable further play
- Avoid confrontational "caught you" conversations — calmer, non-judgemental talks are more likely to help
- Protect household finances by separating accounts temporarily if needed
Deposit Limits We Recommend
If you set nothing else, consider the 1% rule: never deposit more per month than 1% of your annual take-home income. For most players that is more than enough to enjoy casino gaming without financial risk.
